Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has detained 12 migrant workers, including 11 Bangladeshis, in a coordinated anti-drug operation conducted in the Woodlands area. The raid took place late Thursday night and continued into the early hours of Friday (28 November), despite heavy rain, CNB said in a statement.
According to CNB, a 34-year-old Bangladeshi national was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking and drug abuse.
This was the first CNB-led operation in which media representatives were allowed to be physically present during the raid. Alongside CNB, the operation included members of the Singapore Police Force (SPF), the Health Sciences Authority (HSA), the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), and the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).
During the raid, officers searched two dormitory rooms. Five individuals were detained from the first room under suspicion of drug-related activities, and their belongings were examined. One more person was arrested from the second room, where officers also seized drug-consumption tools such as glass bottles, cut straws, and rubber tubes with mouthpieces. After completing formal procedures, all detainees were taken away in vans.
Following the operation, Superintendent Jayanthas Tong Hiong Ji, Deputy Commanding Officer of CNB Enforcement Division J, said the Singapore government maintains a zero-tolerance stance toward drugs and will not compromise on such offenses.
He warned that drug-related activities will not be tolerated anywhere — in workplaces, residential areas, or within society. “Anyone involved will face strict action,” he added.
