Dhaka Metro Rail Resumes Full Operations After 23-Hour Suspension

Train services on the Dhaka Metro Rail have fully resumed nearly 23 and a half hours after a bearing pad fell from one of the pillars near the Farmgate area.

Md. Ahsan Ullah Sharifi, Deputy Project Director (Public Relations) of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), told Dhaka Post, “We have resumed operations on the entire route from 11 a.m.”

The incident occurred yesterday afternoon when a bearing pad fell from pillar number 433, killing one pedestrian and injuring two others. Following the accident, metro rail operations across the entire route were suspended for safety reasons.

Partial services resumed later in the day — trains began operating between Agargaon and Uttara around 3 p.m., and between Motijheel and Shahbagh at around 7:15 p.m. However, train movement between Shahbagh and Agargaon remained suspended.

After nearly 23 hours of repair work, DMTCL completed the replacement of the bearing pad on pillar number 433, allowing metro trains to operate across the full route once again.
