Two army officers—Colonel Redowanul Islam and Major Rafat Bin Alam Mun—have been produced before the International Crimes Tribunal-1 in connection with the case filed over the killing of 28 people in Rampura during recent student protests. They were brought to the tribunal under strict security at around 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
The hearing is being conducted by a three-member bench led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mojumdar. The other members of the panel are Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmood and retired district and sessions judge Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
Earlier on 8 October, the tribunal accepted formal charges against four accused, including former BGB officer Lt Colonel Redowanul Islam, and issued arrest warrants in connection with the killings that occurred during anti-discrimination student protests.
The other accused in the case are former DMP Khilgaon Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Md Rashedul Islam and former Rampura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Moshior Rahman.
According to the charge sheet, 28 people were shot dead and many others injured when law enforcement allegedly opened fire on protesters in Rampura during the July–August student movement. Investigators stated that former BGB officer Redowanul was seen firing directly at demonstrators, while the remaining accused also played leading roles in the incident. The formal charges were submitted after completion of the investigation report.
